City of Talent Oregon / NewsDonation Scam
On 060120, a local resident reported a possible scam involving requests for donations for a local non-profit. The case is under investigation.
On 060120, a concerned citizen reported that at least two individuals were soliciting businesses in the Phoenix, Talent and Ashland areas for a local non-profit, “Recovery Café.” In some cases, the suspects washed windows in return for a “donation” to the non-profit.
It has been determined that the non-profit is not involved in this fundraising/solicitation and has not received any of the donations.
The Police Department believes it has identified the suspects and is currently attempting to locate them for questioning.
The police department is urging local businesses/individuals to refrain from donating to these individuals. If you want to donate to this non-profit, please contact the organization directly via Facebook, website, or telephone.
“Reclaiming Lives is a non-profit established by the Mendenhall family to help people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction find recovery. We opened Recovery Café, a coffee shop in downtown Medford, to provide a place where people build relationships with people who care about them and want to see them succeed in life. We hold weekly Recovery Circles which are led by trained peer support specialists who have found recovery from substance abuse disorder and have at least 2 years clean. We believe everyone needs a place to belong, grow and inspire others.”
